Why this recipe is special:
It is an old family recipe from a great great aunt... was cooked on a farm so had to be good. Great as it doesn't use eggs. Also perfect for limited dishes for washing up! Lasts well - if it doesn't get eaten in one sitting!!
Serves: 12
Ingredients:
125 g butter
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons Hansells baking soda
1 3/4 cup flour
2 tablespoons cocoa
Method:
1) In a medium pot, melt butter, sugar and golden syrup together until sugar dissolved. Take off the heat.
2) Mix milk and baking soda together in a separate bowl or cup.
3) Add the milk and baking soda mixture to the pot. It will get quite frothy.
4) Add the flour and cocoa to the pot and mix in. An electric beater can be used to make smooth.
5) Grease a round or ring cake tin, place batter inside and cook in a moderate oven (180 degrees Celcius) for 45 minutes or until cooked.
6) Let the cake cool and ice with frosting. Enjoy!
